Are you ready to weed that garden already?

Well, we just had a warm week! With all that beautiful weather you might start to notice some of our first cool weather weeds popping up in the garden.

Chickweed!

Even before we start planting things, getting a head start on pulling out these early season trouble makers will give us a huge leg up for when its time to start growing the first of our veggies in a few weeks.

It worth taking a moment to look for some of those cool season annuals/biannuals like Chickweed (Stellaria media) or my favorite Bittercrest (Cardamine hirsuta) and my worst enemy Creeping Sorrel (Oxalis corniculata). All of these guys have relatively small roots systems and can be popped out pretty easily with a hand weeder. By catching these guys before they go to seed early on we can save ourselves a tremendous amount of work later in the season.

Try not to step or walk into garden beds and disturb the soil as little as possible because things are still pretty wet and we don't want to compact that beautiful soil tilth!

Good luck and good hunting!
